-The great dustbowl storm swept across the U.S. prairies.

-Hitler declared himself Fuhrer.

-Stalin began his 'Great Purge.'

-Mao Zedong began the 'Long March' in China.

-The atomic bomb design was patented in Hungary.

-The first x-ray photo of an entire body was performed in Rochester, NY.

-MLB All Star team including Babe Ruth, Jimmie Fox and Lou Gherig started an 18 game tour against the Japanese Big Six University League and Babe Ruth played his last game at Yankee Stadium.

-Shirley Temple and Donald Duck both made their first appearances.

-Bridget Bardot, Sophia Loren, Hank Aaron, Roberto Clemente, Roger Maris and Manuel Noriega were born.

-Bonnie and Clyde were killed.
