In the early days of mining in Park City, Utah, explosives were stored underground in the mines for easy access. In 1902 an explosion in the Daly West Mine, near the current day Montage in Deer Valley, created toxic fumes that spread throughout the mine tunnels killing 34 men. After this accident all dynamite was stored above the ground in buildings like this one.
